While there is no dearth of romantic date options in Singapore, it’s sometimes hard to get out of your rut when it comes to date ideas. I’ll be the first to admit that my husband and I would be happy to just be able to go out for a meal on our own. However, it’s no secret that trying new activities as a couple helps to keep things fresh and strengthen your bond. You don't need to wait until a special occasion to rekindle the spark.

Here are seven unique ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Gaze up at the stars

Head to the Singapore Science Centre Observatory for a celestial Valentine’s Day date. Marvel at the wonders of the night sky through powerful telescopes, learning about constellations and distant galaxies. This star-studded experience will add a cosmic touch to your romantic evening. If you aren’t keen on sharing your date venue with school-age children, you can consider more secluded spots like Rower’s Bay Park (Seletar Park Road) or Changi Bay Point (along Aviation Road). On a clear night, these spots offer a gorgeous constellations-filled canvas and precious quiet so you can enjoy each other’s company without interruptions.

Watch a movie (or three)

Remember those days before kids where you used to catch all the latest movies at an actual cinema? Relive your cinephile days with a midnight movie marathon at The Projector, an independent cinema known for its eclectic film selection. Grab a craft beer from the bar outside before snuggling in for a cosy and intimate cinema experience.

Learn to cook as a team

Escape the ordinary by organising a private picnic amidst the gorgeous Gardens by the Bay. Choose a secluded spot, lay out a blanket and savour a sumptuous picnic basket filled with your favourite treats. Lying beside your beloved and surrounded by the beauty of the Supertrees, it’s hard not to be filled with warm, fuzzy feelings.

Make art together

5/7

Want to recreate that iconic scene in Ghost (1990) where Patrick Swayze sat behind Demi Moore at the pottery wheel? Sign up for a ceramics workshop at Arudio, which offers affordable and beginner-friendly pottery workshops. As you get your hands dirty, soak in the companionable silence as you work side by side creating your ceramic artwork.

Get your hearts pounding

6/7

Relive those heady early courtship days with an adrenaline-soaked afternoon at Sentosa! Head to Skypark Sentosa by AJ Hackett and take a leap of faith with a tandem bungy jump or giant swing, or walk hand-in-hand across the gravity-defying skybridge. Cap it off with a scenic ride on SkyHelix Sentosa – rising high at 79m above ground, this open-air ride offers panoramic views of Sentosa, the Keppel Bay area and the Southern Islands.

Bee in love

7/7

The second sweetest thing to your love story? Honey, of course! Get up close and personal with bees, honey and all things sweet at The Sundowner, a nature experience space tucked away in Katong. Take your pick from workshops on organic gardening, cocktail-making and even making your own mead or honey ice cream!
