We all know and love Taobao, right? You can find an endless plethora of things on this sprawling marketplace – from fashion to beauty gadgets and homeware.
And it's so easy to find something surprising or new too. Whether you're stumbling upon something through the endless search results or using the nifty image search option, you've got plenty to choose from. At the click of your mouse, you can go from clean, modernist furniture to quirky art and bohemian planters. Then a few more clicks, and your new dining table or bedside lamp is on its way to you.
Yet in the gargantuan annals of Taobao's pages, what are some worthwhile shops one should spend time checking out? We've collated some of our fave stores for you to start shopping.
What to expect: Mid-century-inspired home furnishing
If the words "Scandi", "mid century mod" or "tranquil" are on your moodboard, then Mulin Home could have plenty to offer. The store primarily focuses on mid-century designs, incorporating lots of clean shapes and warm wood finishes. From TV consoles to sofas and modular bookshelves, their pieces help homeowners build the structure of each room, allowing you the space to customise each item further with your own knick knacks.
What to expect: Warm, rustic homeware and decor items
The vibe here is admittedly more cosy when it comes to Juhan Home's product range. Lush plastic plants – great for those without a green thumb – sit next to copper-toned dining ware and intentionally-aged flower pots. Think of this place as a mix of country barnhouse meets Bali villa.
What to expect: Drinkware that look like they belong in an aesthetic cafe
Who says your morning routine can't feel more elevated? Qixi's range of table and drinkware caters to the kitchen goddess who wants to serve up coffee in more than just a basic white mug. Here, you'd find gorge glazed ceramic cups, delicate porcelain saucers and so on.
What to expect: Statement furniture pieces
Honestly, this writer had a really tough time not adding the entire store to my cart. If you're like me, and you love a home that's a little artsy, a little eclectic with postmodern pieces, then Ziin Life is for you. Think velvet sofas that are very trendy right now, checkerboard tiled tables and brightly-coloured dinner chairs.
What to expect: Dinnerware for every and any style
You want it? Joto has it. A glass mug with a dancing cat? Yes. Japandi-inspired dinner plates? Got'em. Ceramics swirled with brown marble-like lines? They have it too.
What to expect: Aesthetic lighting options
First of all, never buy electrical items without doing your homework or consulting with your contractor first. But once that's cleared, Da Guan Yuan Ji has plenty of light options for you to pick from. These range from classic, modern and minimalist to OTT, "are those a bunch of moons strung together???" level of weird.
What to expect: Vinyl players
What did you expect from a shop that calls itself "Vinyl Player Store"? Still, if an Audio Technica player is out of your budget range, consider the products in this shop. They all carry a certain vintage feel that would fit right into any retro-inspired room, and these players aren't just for display because they actually work.
What to expect: All your bits and bobs
Sometimes, you just need to find a shop that carries a set of ladles, or a new set of hanging hooks, right? OTB has you covered, with their range of home products that span across different rooms and needs. From silicone cookware and oiled chopping boards to door hanging hooks and photo frames, they literally have everything you'd need to fill up your home.
