Apple’s big 2024 announcements: iPhone 16, AirPods 4, and the latest Apple Watch

Apple recently took the internet by storm last night when it announced the yearly release of its latest products. Spearheading the announcement was none other than Tim Cook himself. The CEO of Apple surprised fans around the world when he unveiled that the tech giant will be releasing a new, sleek and updated version of the Apple Watch, AirPods and of course, the launch of its highly anticipated iPhone 16. 

Apple Watch Series 10

From discreetly checking the time to scanning notifications to a quick glance at your workout metrics, how easily you read the screen is important – which is why Apple has developed the largest screen display ever for the Apple Watch. It has up to 30% more screen area with the larger screen, so you can increase the font size without sacrificing content. This also means that you can see an additional line of text like messages, mail and news. 

The watch also comes with Apple’s first-ever wide-angle OLED display. Often you look at your watch from an angle like while you’re walking or typing the keyboard. So the new watch comes with a display that is 40% brighter when viewed from an angle which improves visibility and makes it easier to look at your watch with a quick glance and was designed to complement the new aluminium finishes. 

The new watch also accommodates more efficient charging making this watch the fastest-charging Apple watch ever. In just 30 minutes you can get up to 80% battery making it easier to charge your watch whenever it fits into your day.

The watch is also lighter than it was before as it makes use of aluminum casing which is 10% lighter than the previous generations. Aside from reminding you to take your medications and alerting you to loud environments that could impact your hearing, the watch can also notify you when your heart shows signs of atrial fibrillation.

While you’re sleeping Apple watch can measure wrist temperature to detect when you’ve likely ovulated identify changes in your daily life status how much time you spend in each sleep stage. What is unique about the new Apple watch is that it can also detect if you have sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea can experience excessive daytime tiredness have difficulties concentrating and be more irritable if left untreated sleep apnea can have significant consequences on your health. In the presentation, it is reported that 80% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed so they don’t know they have the condition. With this new feature on the Apple Watch, it can detect and monitor your breathing which will help you understand the restfulness of your sleep. After 30 days, Apple Watch will analyse your data and notify you if you show consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.

Apple Watch Ultra 

Otherwise known as the Ultimate sports watch, the Ultra comes with an action button for precise workout control and a depth gauge for scuba. On top of that, it also comes with dual-frequency GPS and advanced positioning software.

Ultra delivers the most accurate GPS in a sports watch. Great for fitness enthusiasts, this watch allows you to track your custom workout with pacing features and industry-first running track detection. There’s also a new feature which makes it easier for you to plan when to push and when to recover especially when you’re training or preparing for a race.  For cyclists you can track distance, speed, and elevation, cyclists can easily view their workout as a live activity on iPhone. 

Besides the sports features, The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also allows you to play back audio through its two built-in speakers so you can listen to audio from a range of apps including Apple Music, Apple Podcast, Apple Books and other third-party apps.

AirPods 4

The Apple AirPods Are one of the most versatile tech accessories to have in your collection. This year Apple announced that they will be releasing AirPods 4, which will consist of an entry-level version and another that comes with active noise cancelling features. As for the AirPods Pro 2, the earpiece will be getting new noise protection features and a unique feature that allows users to use the AirPods Pro 2 as a hearing aid.

AirPods Max

The AirPods Max on the other hand did not get any major upgrades but it does come in a wider range of colours.

iPhone 16

The weight is finally over during the Apple GlowTime event on Monday it was announced that the brand will be releasing the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models this September. In terms of colours, the iPhone 16 will also arrive in a new pink colourway. The iPhone 16 will also get a suite of AI tools – marking the beginning of a new era for the iPhone. Here, you can prioritise and summarise notifications and emails, introduce a more natural and flexible Siri and more. The Apple Intelligence will be available as a free software update with the first set of features rolling out as early as next month.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

As for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, users can also use the 48MP Fusion camera to take 4K120 FPS video recording in Dolby Vision a new 48 MP ultra-wide camera for higher resolution microphotography and the 5X Telephoto camera. 

The iPhone 16 lineup, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, and AirPods Max, will be available to customers in Singapore next Friday, September 20
