Ready to wear

Chanel never fails to design watches that delight and inspire, and this year’s capsule Couture O’Clock collection is no exception. Inspired by the everyday tools of a couture workshop, such as scissors, bobbins, even measuring tapes, the collection playfully transforms these mundane objects into high-fashion timepieces. The Premiere Ribbon Couture watch exemplifies this creative spirit, replacing the traditional bracelet with a leather-rendered measuring tape, and adorning the crown with a charm featuring Coco Chanel’s likeness.

Golden standards

On its own, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is already an icon, but even sized down to 23mm, it makes a statement. The Royal Oak Mini, released earlier this year, is an unabashed women’s timepiece, with nary a diamond in sight.

It features the same Florentine frosted gold finish that was introduced in 2016 in collaboration with jeweller Carolina Bucci. The 23mm versions come in three monotone versions, each boasting a complete rose, yellow and white gold bracelet, dial, and case.

IWC Schaffhausen, renowned for pioneering oversized watches, has embraced the small watch trend with remarkable success. The Pilot, previously released in sizes up to 55mm, showcases its versatility in this 36mm version. This automatic timepiece exudes a sporty vibe without the heft of a traditional sports watch. Its aesthetic is refreshingly pared down, featuring a sleek blue dial with contrasting white numerals.

Doing the polka

The smallest watch in this round-up delivers a surprising punch: The Faubourg Polka, part of Hermes’ flagship collection named after its iconic Faubourg Saint-Honore store in Paris, may be petite, but it’s far from underwhelming. The Polka name refers to its show-stopping bracelet, featuring interwoven dots and baguettes that steal the spotlight. Though not a new release, this watch deserves recognition for its unique and enduring design.
