It’s time for the annual Grammy Awards, and music’s biggest and most prominent celebrities definitely brought their A-game to the red carpet. Hosted in Los Angeles by Trevor Noah, the event was a star-studded affair, with an impressive line-up of performances, celebrations and well-deserved wins.
After a seminal year for female pop stars in 2024, it only made sense that women ruled this year’s Grammys. L.A native Billie Eilish paid tribute to her home city with a rendition of her hit song “Birds of a Feather”, while three of the buzziest female musicians in the world right now each took to the stage to make their Grammy debuts: Sabrina Carpenter with a mash-up of “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please”, Charli XCX with “Von dutch” and “Guess”, and Chappell Roan with “Pink Pony Club” (after being introduced by another pop princess, Olivia Rodrigo). When it came to taking the stage to accept their wins, we saw Sabrina Carpenter win Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Solo Pop Performance; Charli XCX win Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Recording Packaging and Best Dance Pop Recording; Chappell Roan win Best New Artist; Doechii win Best Rap Album and, of course, Beyonce finally won Album of the Year.
Needless to say, be they ingenues or icons, the ladies did not disappoint when it came to making a statement on the red carpet. Sabrina Carpenter channelled old Hollywood in a custom JW Anderson gown, while Chappell Roan turned heads in archival Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel ambassador Gracie Abrams stood out in a custom chiffon hood-and-dress outfit. Lady Gaga had a goth moment in custom Samuel Lewis paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels, and while Taylor Swift did not win any awards, she did get the internet ablaze with everyone wondering whether her striking red Vivienne Westwood minidress and “T” garter chain were potentially a nod to beau Travis Kelce.
