Best- and worst-dressed celebs at the Brit Awards 2020

The highlight looks from a rather muted red carpet showing

If you thought that red carpet reportage ended with the Oscars, you are wrong. The awards season continue with the Brit Awards 2020 happening across the Atlantic. Held at the O2 Arena in London, the United Kingdom, the ceremony celebrated pop music acts, with young Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi taking home the most awards with a win count of two.

The red carpet, however, was rather lacklustre as it lacked the usual fanfare and drama that we're used to. Ahead, our picks on the best and worst looks of the evening.

Yay: Joy Crookes

1/10

We love representation in media. That is why we were more than pleasantly surprised when Joy Crookes, who is of Bangladeshi-Irish heritage, turned up in a dazzling gold traditional South Asian outfit. She had stated to the BBC that the move was so that "young girls can see someone who looks like their mum, their auntie, their gran on the red carpet at the Brits."

Yay: Harry Styles

2/10

Can you tell that Harry Styles was robbed at knifepoint a few days earlier? The daring fashionista added feminine details such as the lace collar, pearl necklace and Mary Jane shoes to the typical brown suit that could look drab.

Yay: Charli XCX

3/10

The Brit Awards red carpet was relatively tame but Charli XCX was one of the few who, thankfully, brought some drama. Her black Fendi gown had flair while the silver chunky choker from Bulgari gave an edgy finish.

Yay: Celeste

4/10

From the poufy updo, Gucci dress to the lace gloves and stockings, Celeste's vintage-inspired ensemble hit all the right notes in our books. We're also loving the bold lip and thick cat-eyes.

Yay: FKA Twigs

5/10

Mixing silhouettes and fabrics for a red carpet can either be totally jaw-dropping or fail spectacularly. In the case of FKA Twigs' custom Ed Marler, it scored perfect 10s for its unique juxtaposition and controlled use of colours.

Nay: Anne-Marie

6/10

The giant bow at the back, the mini blue bows scattered around, the trimmed off-shoulder neckline, the chunky jewellery, the pink hair...The devil might be in the details but this is way too much.

Nay: Montana Brown

7/10

The bright yellow Rami Kadi bodysuit against the silvery chainmail made Montana Brown look like she was caught in a fishing incident. The contrasting colours didn't work in her favour too.

Nay: Lewis Capaldi

8/10

While we are used to the formulaic approach of men in suits on the red carpet, Lewis Capaldi just missed the mark for us. The young singer might have won big at the awards but we can't give him a best-dressed accolade as he looked rather informal and dare we say, sloppy?

Nay: Lizzo

9/10

From the milk chocolate-inspired Moschino dress to the Judith Leiber jewelled clutch that mimics a bar of chocolate, we love the idea and intention of Lizzo's outfit. However, we aren't fans of how the gown didn't seem to flatter the powerhouse singer's body.

Nay: Jorja Smith

10/10

While we applaud Jorja Smith's confidence for donning a loud and colourful catsuit on the red carpet, the Jean Paul Gaultier outfit, unfortunately, looked ill-fitting and tacky. She definitely has had better looks in her repertoire.
