Modern English Rose
We envision a charming lass in the countryside, far from the drama of city life, dressed in tweeds, herringbones, and argyles – though in more abstract patterns. Building on the basics
You’ve got your classic wardrobe of shirts, sweaters, wide-legged trousers, turtlenecks, and blazers in every style – you get the picture. Now, designers are reimagining the basics by pairing them with other basics – a leather shirt worn over a regular shirt and paired with a midi skirt, for instance. Matthieu Blazy of Bottega Veneta is a master of this approach. Or take inspiration from Pieter Mulier at Alaia, who kept things simple with the brand’s signature knit top, but paired it with balloon- style jeans – a classic wardrobe staple with an unconventional twist.
