Dior's S/S19 collection is a tribute to strong female dancers

Dance is at the heart of this collection. An art that is perfected through bodily movements, rhythm and music. Dior’s SS19 collection is a nod to the discipline and passion that has made it possible for women to own it. Inspired by the heroines of contemporary dance, this collection is both ethereal yet beaming with strength at its seams. 

Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri has taken an ode to the archives of Christian Dior illustrating his extraordinary collaboration with Roland Petit on the ballet Treize Danses, and photos of Margot Fonteyn, the dancer and House client. The collection reveals the essence of contemporary dance in all its lightness and extreme suppleness. This can be witnessed in the flowy tulle skirts, short or long tutus and an infinity of nude shades that bordered the arena. Corresponding to the body’s movements, skin-clinging bodysuits,tanks and light jumpsuits also formed the choreography.

The mirage of looks on the runway served to dazzle one with its versatility, plenty of these pieces are synonymous with romance and can be worn as from day to night. For the closing act, choreographer Sharon Eyal made sure that the movements showed rigorous discipline and liberation of the body.

And with that, Maria Grazia Chiuri perfectly summed up the elements of ballet and contemporary dance into a collation of what the female imagination has been daydreaming of - fantasy.
