5 fashion essentials to invest in for WFH meetings, according to Her World’s digital editor

Let’s say you get to work from home forever. How are you going to stay chic?

Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey broke the internet when he announced to staff on May 12 that they may continue to work from home indefinitely. While most of us have been associating the WFH situation with circuit breaker measures, and therefore treating it like a temporary affair, more companies are looking at it as a viable workplace practice, and toying with the idea of making it a permanent one.

If this means we may not be saying goodbye to Zoom anytime soon (or at all), Her World’s digital editor Mary-Ann Soh suggests investing in these five fashion essentials to stay fresh and put-together.

1) Padded headbands

1/20

Have you seen those padded headbands on the runways of Prada? Well, I got myself a velvet pink version and it has become my go-to hair accessory for #cheatdays (when I can’t afford the time to style my hair, give it a blowout or let alone comb it).

If you're wearing a coloured band, pair it with a simple white shirt so it can bask in its moment of glory. But if a plain shirt is too dull for you, opt for one with different textures or some details like the one I'm wearing.

2) Hair clips

5/20

Hair clips are a lifesaver if you just want to switch up your hairstyle. And yes, I was so inspired by Korean actress Seo Ji-hye's signature hair looks in the recent hit K-drama Crash Landing on You.

Another thing I like about hair clips is that they can be rather inexpensive – I got these zigzag ones from Cotton On Kids! Hey, why not if they're pretty?

3) Printed blouse

9/20

Since only the top half of your body is visible in a video conference, a printed blouse will do the trick. I like floral prints and puffed sleeves on days I want to feel cheery.

4) Scarf

13/20

Here's another easy style hack anyone can pull off at home: Elevate a casual tee with a scarf (preferably one with pretty prints and colours). I did a classic side knot, but there are plenty of tying methods to play with. Don’t let that designer scarf collect dust!

5) Lipstick

17/20

For my final look, I decided to go a little flirty and fun. Again, for video calls, opt for a top with details – mine had a dramatic, larger-than-usual collar with floral patterns. Since my blouse was beige, I wore a bright pink lipstick (Fenty Mattemoiselle in Ballerina Blackout) for a pop of colour. Here's how to pick the right pink lipstick that will flatter your skin tone.
