I finally started cracking up at this painting once I put the flowing manes on the merman and the she-taur.

I was asked to come back to Greensboro last weekend for another “modeling” gig. I show up and dress how they want me to (which thankfully is usually how I am dressed when I get there) and sit and look where they tell me to.

There was a new photographer there who I hadn’t met before. Matt Bell shoots with this ancient black and white camera from 1846 and got some shots of me nursing a fake beer all by my lonesome.

Keep an eye on this group. They are a creative juggernaut and I’m glad they like pointing their expensive cameras at my mug for whatever reason.

See? I told you I’d work the pun angle when it was absolutely unavoidable. Wham. How could I not throw that one out there? What’s it mean? Well given the fact that my bread and butter is commissioned work, I have a “you pay me I paint it” policy. I thought the William Shatner in black metal gauntlets and corpse paint was wacked out.

I thought the Celtics Big 3 in front of Cinderella’s castle was the most peculiar commission I’d get all year.

The Camera Eye

So I’m still on that “just name the post after whatever song you’re listening to” thing. Probably won’t be often that I’m clever with the title unless a good pun really whacks me in the back of the head. Yes I’m listening to Rush’s “The Camera Eye” which is from the same album as “Vital Signs”. Yes I listen to too much Rush. Oh well.

Speaking of camera eyes… look what mine has seen recently:

Kayla with her dad and her portrait.

They came in last week and when Dad held her over the table where her portrait was laid out she pointed and said “That’s Kayla!!” I clapped my hands across each other to signify that my job was done. If the genuine livin’ breathin’ article can pick the subject out at two and a half years old then I’m happy.

Here’s the hotrod. Almost. Sort of. Done.

This month has flown by. I can’t believe how fast. The nights and mornings are cold and the afternoon is too hot for sleeves. Pick one, Southeast. I keep talking about the weather. It really is a default topic. Every time I talk about the weather this song pops into my head.

Vital Signs

Vital Signs by Rush is the song currently in my head. I listened to it during breakfast today and can’t think of a clever entry title so there you go.

What have I been doing? Painting. See?

I’m still dancing around the engine here but it’s coming along. I’m very happy with this still.

Here is the portrait of my friend’s parents out in L.A. After this is done I’ll have painted portraits of the entire family unit. Hope to see everyone soon. Love from the East.

Is Fall coming? Is it already here? It’s tough to tell when you’re not in New England. I still have no idea what to be or what to do for Halloween. I’m growing my beard out just in case I need a quick moustache, chinstrap, mutton chops… whatever. Any ideas you post them here.
