Girard-Perregaux’s timepieces: Meet the ladies

We’ve been hearing a lot about the Laureatos from Girard-Perregaux recently - and for good reason - but the brand’s beautiful high jewellery timepieces are equally deserving of our attention.

This year, GP is adding the Cat’s Eye Day & Night High Jewellery watch to its Cat’s Eye collection, a series of timepieces with oval dials reminiscent of, well, a feline’s eye. The mechanical watch features a rare, deep blue aventurine dial - to represent the iris of the eye, a moonphase complication, and a diamond-encrusted bezel and lugs. It also comes fitted with a dark blue alligator strap and a white gold folding clasp set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

Now back to the Laureatos - and a quick history lesson on the family of watches that are fast becoming GP’s most recognisable: the very first Laureato debuted in 1975 as a stainless steel quartz watch, with its now iconic octagonal bezel and elegant integrated bracelet (which means the bezel links seamlessly to the bracelet - no lugs). In 2016, the Swiss brand resurrected the watch while keeping its signature design elements, and now two years on, it comes in more than 30 references for both sexes.

The newest addition to the ever expanding family is the Laureato Chronograph, a sporty series of chronos with a 46-hour power reserve. Available in 38mm or 42mm, these handsome dress watches are great for the ladies who prefer larger dials. In celebration of its launch, the Swiss brand will hold a 13-day pop-up exhibition featuring the new watches and selected iconic pieces from the Laureato family at level one of Ngee Ann City from 1 August to 13 August.

Laureato 38mm Ceramic White

The newest made-for-ladies Laureato launched here this year, the Laureato 38mm Ceramic White, is also the first from the range to be crafted in white ceramic, a lightweight and highly scratch-resistant material that is harder than stainless steel or gold. A steel bezel set with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds adds extra sparkle to the frosty white bracelet and dial.

Laureato 34mm Royalty

In satin-brushed pink gold or stainless steel with a regal blue dial framed by a diamond encrusted bezel, the Laureato Royalty is a true aristocrat. The limited-edition watch also features a transparent sapphire caseback through which you can get a glimpse of its interior quartz movement. The stainless steel version is limited to 200 pieces while the pink gold one is limited to 100 pieces.

Laureato 34mm

At just 7.75mm thick with a 34mm diameter, the quartz-powered Laureato 34mm is the smallest in the Laureato family, but perfectly sized for the average woman’s wrist - neither too small nor too large. The perennial range is available in stainless steel or pink gold, with bezels that come plain or set with diamonds, and hobnail-patterned dials in colours ranging from silver to navy blue.

The classic Laureato is also available in larger, unisex 38mm and 42mm (pictured above) sizes - perfect as a matching pair for couples.
