Better known as the founder behind Ksisters, Lee Jungmin is truly the go-to person for K-beauty and K-food recommendations here in Singapore.

She relocated to Singapore in 2015 and decided to start her own business the year after finding it difficult to find Korean kids clothing for her two daughters in Singapore. As the business grew, the requests for K-beauty also increased, and Lee answered by including K-beauty brands from 2018.

Today, Ksisters is an online destination that brings together all things K, from fashion to beauty and lifestyle and food.

More importantly, the brands and products found on both Ksisters and Mukbang Mart are ones that are used and genuinely loved by Korean women in Korea. In addition, everything is carefully curated, personally sourced and tested by Lee and her team, alongside consumer testers, to ensure that the products work for women in Singapore, especially in dealing with our hot and humid weather.

So there’s no one better than Lee herself to share her personal beauty routine and skincare must-haves, especially if you’re looking to achieve that well-lit glow from within, just like your favourite Korean celebs and idols. “Faking that glow using makeup is quite outdated in Korea. How to fundamentally approach skin enhancement is the key trend these days. So the understanding of your own skin condition and choosing the right ingredients to target those specific needs is extremely important.”

Want to know Lee’s K-beauty secrets? Here’s her skincare routine:

Step 1: Remove makeup with a cleansing oil or water

1/10

Lee prefers a cleansing water in Singapore, but when she’s in Korea during winter, she switches it to a cleansing oil that works better with the extremely cold and dry air.

Step 2: Double cleanse

2/10

Double cleanse with a gentle foam cleanser to ensure that you don’t strip too moisture from your skin.

Step 3: Apply toner

3/10

Apply your toner or a toning mist immediately after the cleansing to hydrate, soothe and protect the skin.

Step 4: For added hydration, use toner pads

4/10

Lee’s pick: 3Pages Hydro Lock Calming Pad, $41 (jar of 30 sheets). Each sheet is double sided – the embossed side helps remove dead skin cells while the soft side moisturises and soothes, and comes soaked with a peptide solution to keep signs of ageing at bay.

Step 5: Address skin concerns with ampoules and serums

5/10

In Singapore, Lee uses one to two ampoules at a time, each addressing a different concern. But when she’s in Korea, especially during winter, she ups it to four different ampoules.

Her personal faves include: Jung Beauty 2 Step Baby Pore Kit, $150 (box of five), to refine skin texture, Lavien Collagen Professional Program, $185 (box of four), to target signs of anti-ageing and Ohiohoo Glowy & Dewy Serum, $48, for brightening.

Step 6: Masking for added goodness

6/10

For Lee, a mask a day is enough for her skin. In Singapore, she adds wash-off mask in the mornings like the Ohiohoo Re’Juice (Beet), $45, that reduces puffiness after one use. “Apply this mask as soon as you wake up and leave it to do its magic while you prep your breakfast or grab a bite.”

But when she’s combating Korea’s cold and dry winters, then she increases it to two masks day, preferring to use I Woke Up Like This Boosting Face Up and Eye Patch, $58 (box of four sheets), that does double duty by keeping eyes bright and helping with skin sagging and a pesky double chin at the same time.

Step 7: Lock in the moisture

7/10

Finish the routine with a moisturiser to seal in all the active and nourishing ingredients. If skin still needs more, Lee suggests adding a facial oil – she does this especially when she’s in Korea during the colder months. And don’t forget to also keep your lips well-hydrated – she always keeps the Yulip Ultimate Lip Balm, $30, on hand.

NOTE: If you’re planning a trip to a country with a colder climate, Lee says hydration is key during your skincare prep. To keep skin well-hydrated, she recommends layering your hydrating products by starting with lighter and watery serums and lotions, and finishing with heavier creams and oils. “I usually use water-based essences and ampoules first, and finish my routine with a facial oil.”
Lee’s 3 Skincare Must-Dos
To ensure that your complexion remains healthy and radiant, Lee shares her three top tips:

#1 Use sunscreen every single day

8/10

“It is the most affordable anti-ageing solution. As sun damage can accelerate skin ageing, it is important to find the right sunscreen that works well and protects the skin, especially in sunny Singapore, instead of spending a lot of money on other anti-ageing creams.”

Try I Woke Up Like This Protecting Base Sun Cream SPF50/PA+++, $47

#2 Know your ‘golden time’ to apply products

9/10

Lee often talks about the importance of applying a toner/toning mist right after cleansing. In fact, she recommends placing your toner or a toning mist in the bathroom so you can apply it immediately after washing your face, as the last step of your cleansing routine. “It helps me remember to give my skin a spritz right after I cleanse to prevent moisture loss.”

Try Lavien Centella Creaming Toner, $59

#3 Include collagen in your anti-ageing skincare routine

10/10

It’s no surprise that collagen is one of the important components in our skin. But unfortunately with age, we lose this collagen. In fact, by the time you hit your 40s, you would have only 50 per cent of the amount of collagen of what you had in your 20s. This is why Lee believes it’s important to incorporate collagen-infused products, both in skincare and beauty supplements, to help boost collagen production to stay youthful looking.
