How to channel sexy “dark feminine energy” with makeup

Dark feminine energy is the latest fashion and beauty trend adored by celebrities and taking over our social media feeds. As the name suggests, it reflects a rebellion against societal norms that dictate how a woman should look.

In fashion, it means swapping out candy coloured fits for sultry noir ensembles. On the beauty front, entering your dark feminine era will see you rocking a bold, wine red lipstick or embracing smokey eye makeup.

“It’s a trend anyone can pull off and is perfect for date nights, red carpet events, or even company dinners,” states makeup artist Lasalle Lee.

To achieve this look, Jenny Goh, makeup artist at 2AM Makeup Studio, advises focusing on either your eyes or lips to avoid an over-the-top appearance. Additionally, the colours you choose should “be cohesive and harmonise with each other.”

For the eyes, Lasalle recommends deep shades like dark brown or grey. For the lips, he suggests going for a darker tone or opting for a lighter hue while overlining with a lip pencil.

Jenny also suggests starting with your eye makeup, as this allows you to easily clean up any eyeshadow fallout before applying your face makeup.
