Boucheron’s creative director Claire Choisne has always been one who thrives on creativity and loves reinterpreting pieces from the brand's older collections. Best known for her avant-garde style, Claire enjoys incorporating her bold designs into her work, which are just as stylish as they are timeless. In our recent interview with the creative director herself, she shares more about how she finds inspiration in the natural world as well as some of her favourite pieces to own.

What she wears daily

It’s difficult for me to choose between the Quatre Radiant ring and our latest Jack de Boucheron creation, inspired by a jack plug.

Her favourite jewellery

I am lucky to own a Fleur Eternelle ring, composed of two blue hydrangea flowers, which was made with the same techniques we used for the Nature Triomphante High Jewelry collection launched in 2018. Blue hydrangeas bring back precious memories of my daughter: The first Mother’s Day gift she chose for me was a small bouquet of blue hydrangeas, and I still remember that day perfectly! When I wear this ring, it reminds me of that happy moment.

On Boucheron’s brand philosophy

I am engaged in a constant quest for new technical, artistic and aesthetic processes. I see my role as perpetuating the maison’s philosophy: having the freedom to create, giving women the freedom to wear pieces the way they like, and always pushing the boundaries of creation.

On finding inspiration

The important thing is to keep your eyes open to the world. Personally, I love nature. I spend a lot of time in Portugal surrounded by nature, and I think that is the time when I’m most creative and inspired.

Her proudest moment since joining Boucheron a decade ago

The Nature Triomphante High Jewelry collection took us nearly three years to produce nine rings that give the illusion of flowers that will last forever. We collaborated with a “petal expert” who did more than 10 years of research in stabilising petals.

Turning the traditional into the modern

As the collection is inspired by our archives, my main challenge was to not do a cliche of Art Deco. This theme is 100 years old and has been reinterpreted a lot, so I wanted to make sure not to fall into the trap of looking backwards. Another challenge was to understand the many different styles of Art Deco and identify the ones that best stood the test of time.

Fashion faves

I often go for elegant choices with a twist. I bought an Alexander McQueen trenchcoat just before lockdown – it was a real crush! I like the duality of this strong piece: The front is white, and the back has the Prince of Wales motif. I also love these Gucci sneakers featuring a cat made of glitter, as I am fond of cats. They’re part of my daily off-duty look, together with a simple white T-shirt and well-tailored jeans. The idea is to be as confident and comfortable in your outfit as you are with the jewellery you wear.

Her motto

Never stop dreaming.
