Besides their incredibly catchy music, K-Pop idols are also known for their impeccable fashion. Whether they are filming their latest music video or posing for a fashion magazine cover, these Korean artists are worshipped globally for their daring and avant-garde sense of style. With the constant need to represent and live up to their idol status, regardless of their activities, these women are always impeccably dressed and at the top of their game.

You see, fashion plays a major role in the K-pop industry. Visuals are almost as important as vocals and whatever an idol wears can influence what’s going to be popular in the mainstream. And with fans and paparazzi clinging to their every move, these idols even pay particular attention to their appearance when they travel for overseas events.

1. ITZY's Ryujin

1/9

She might only be 19, but Ryujin already has her personal style defined to a tee. The main vocalist, rapper and lead dancer of ITZY, was seen out about in the streets of New York in a ’90s grunge outfit that looked like the perfect blend of Clueless meets The Craft. With it’s boxy plaid blazer and a pleated miniskirt, we loved how the outfit was edgy yet sexy at the same time. The perfect topping to the look? The stack of layered necklaces that gives Ryujin a glam rock vibe.

2. MAMAMOO's Hwasa

2/9

The rapper and maknae (youngest member in Korean) of the group MAMAMOO instantly grabbed attention as she arrived at the 9th Gaon Chart Music Awards in Seoul in her Versace V-neck embellished mini dress. She’s known best for breaking stereotypes with her figure and daring wardrobe choices, plus she’s not afraid to speak for herself. She recently responded to malicious comments by saying: “If I don’t fit the beauty standards, I’ll create my own standards.” I think we could all take inspiration from Hwasa’s self-confidence.

3. Chungha

3/9

Chungha stepped out of the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)  in Nagoya, Japan in a glamorous gown that was a departure from her signature casual look of jeans and tees. For her red carpet look, Chungha loves to incorporate statement patterns such as floral material, animal and chain prints, and this look is no different! The former member of I.O.I. opted for a Dolce & Gabbana dress with an asymmetrical cut and we loved how the contrast between the leopard chiffon and black lace gave the dress a unique touch.

4. BLACKPINK's Jennie

4/9

Known for her tomboy style with a feminine twist, BLACKPINK’s Jennie was spotted out and about in the streets of Los Angeles in this ’90s inspired grunge look. A balance between cool and comfortable, we love how Jennie’s versatile outfit could work for anything from running errands to date night. That’s just one of the reasons why we love Jennie’s effortless style. She’s just one of those K-pop idols who looks flawless no matter what she wears.

5. Red Velvet's Seulgi

5/9

Seulgi is a big fan of combining high fashion items with affordable pieces, mixing brands like Off-White together with Nike with relative ease. While the singer tends to favour clothes that are comfortable choosing oversized suits, baggy jeans and sneakers over dresses, Seulgi glammed it up at the Moncler pop-up store opening party in Seoul in this edgy tartan ensemble. With her style, it’s no wonder why she’s been chosen as one of the ambassadors for Converse.

6. TWICE's Nayeon

6/9

Known for her cute and girly style, Nayeon showed up for the 29th Seoul Music Awards alongside her band TWICE in this stunning velvet dress. Style might be subjective, but one of the reasons why Nayeon always looks so good is that she always knows how to dress for her body type. She frequently emphasises her long legs with mini shorts and mini skirts. Well, the only thing we can say is that continue doing you Nayeon!

7. Suzy

7/9

A classic and minimalist dresser, Suzy can often be seen in timeless and feminine pieces such as a white blouse, a trench coat, a leather jacket and a tailored blazer. In fact, at a recent Lancôme Pop-up event at Lotte mall in Seoul, the brand ambassador happily posed for the cameras while wearing an elegant monochromatic look that was very on brand with her style. We love how the tulle skirt and turtleneck combo is a great way to pull off an understated party look without being too flashy.

8. Yoona

8/9

If we had to describe Yoona’s look at the Jimmy Choo x YK Jeong capsule collection it would be this: fresh and effortless. We love how laid-back the Girls’ Generation member looks in this grey oversized suit and can’t get enough of how she mixes masculine touches like the oversized fit of the suit with feminine details like a sweet polka dot silk blouse and ribbon bow tie.

9. AOA's Seolhyun

9/9

With her classic good looks and elegant style, AOA’s Seolhyun is an advertisers’ dream. In fact, she’s one of the most requested female K-pop idols for endorsement deals, and we can see why. Seolhyun has always shown a strong interest in fashion and can always be spotted looking impeccable and put-together even at the airport. At the Bottega Veneta event (pictured), she proved that one can look like a million bucks even with a simple white dress!
