Noir and Mansions
Oh what a couple weeks it’s been. Last week I put in tons of time trying to finish commissions and pieces for a couple PR events that I did back to back this past weekend. Everything went off without a hitch and I’m here on the other side of it taking a break from the brushes, getting ready to build boxes to ship out paintings. Being the sole employee here at Hooker Media can be tough. I’m going to ask for a raise.
Friday night I headed to uptown Charlotte to HOM for the film noir themed party I talked about last week. I met some cool people, the place was filled with hot women in dark clothing, I sold a couple small pieces, I was home by 1:30. Gotta love it.
Saturday I called my mom and told her about a free “Jazztoberfest” event in the South End that she might be interested in. She headed over and we hit Atherton Mills parking lot and watched some dudes kill it on a small stage while vendors served German beer and sausage. A weird mix, but it was a cool place to spend an hour on a Saturday for free. The band we saw did a badass version of “The Night Time is the Right Time”. The horn player was switching from a few saxes and clarinets during the set. When Margie Hendrix’s “BAYBAYEEEE” part came up he nailed it perfectly and the crowd went nuts. You know the part. Think Rudy Huxtable on the staircase.
After the jazzfest and a quick bite we went over to Charlotte’s Myers Park area and set up my paintings for an event at a mansion that I was lucky enough to be asked to be a part of. My mom and I met some great people and had a great time that night. When we pulled up to the house and walked in I just started laughing. I had another “painting got me in here” moments that I’ve had a few of this year. The house was amazing. Check out the few photos we grabbed.

This room was the third floor. 1,000 sq. ft. of open space.

I’m going to install a bowling alley up there after I’m all settled in.
This shower was on the ground floor. It had two showers that wrapped around the bathroom connected by A HALLWAY INSIDE OF THEM.

The night was filled with jazzy standards sung by Zita Foster, a beautiful Hungarian woman. I chatted for a while with her husband and told him about the painting I did of the Budapest Parliament building. Very cool people.

This woman and her husband are pastors here in Charlotte. She was one of the coolest people I’ve met all year. She’s extremely well-traveled and interesting and I hope to get some photos from her for inspiration in the future.

This is Joe and Angela, the realtors who got me into this event. If anyone needs a place in Charlotte feel free to email me and I’ll give you their information. Many thanks for them for letting me show my work on Saturday. I had a great time.
