Did you know that one in six cancer deaths in Singapore women is from breast cancer? It is, in fact, the most common type of cancer among women in our country.
This month, Estée Lauder Companies is showing support to the breast cancer awareness movement through a series of efforts. Apart from pink beauty products, the brand has also teamed up with local fashion brands and lifestyle companies to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
On top of that, Estée Lauder Companies collaborated with us on a series of Instagram Live sessions, in which editor Yi Lian spoke to breast cancer survivors, entrepreneur Charlene Koh and actress Pan LingLing, and caregivers of breast cancer patients, singer Benjamin Koh and host Belinda Lee, to raise awareness about the illness.
Charlene found out that she had breast cancer at 35. She underwent mastectomy and chemotherapy, and it was during her battle against the illness that she decided to set up Breathe Essentials Co., a lifestyle brand that offers affordable essential oils and scented candles, so that people, too, could heal with scents, the same way she did when she was undergoing chemotherapy.

The actress' journey through her illness was inspiring. She maintained a positive attitude throughout the journey and showed us just how strong a woman can be. Watch the video above to be inspired by her resilience.
Benjamin lost his mother to breast cancer when he was 12. He recalled his mother as a positive person who normalised the illness and ensured he and his sister, Narelle, understood what she was going through. She continued to make him laugh with her cheery attitude even as she battled the illness.
For Belinda, the memory of her mother's journey remains fresh in her mind, as she had been there during her mother's diagnosis up till her final journey. She tearfully recounted what it was like being a caregiver for a breast cancer patient.
