Review: Big rooms, prime location – Here’s why travellers love Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda
Where comfort meets convenience
By Shazrina Shamsudin -
Hotel rooms in Japan are often known for their compact size, especially in bustling cities like Osaka. Finding enough space to fully open your luggage without obstructing the walkway can be a challenge—let alone accommodating two suitcases if you’re sharing a room. But at Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda, space is a luxury you don’t have to compromise on.
Spacious and adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase Osaka’s stunning cityscape, the rooms at Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda are thoughtfully designed with local touches. You’ll find cultural emblems like Fukusuke dolls, a traditional Kansai good luck charm, a canopy inspired by Shogun Hideyoshi and Metasequoia, and custom shades of River Blue and Umekita Green on the walls—a nod to GRAND GREEN OSAKA’s deep connection to nature.
THE ROOMS
With 308 rooms, including 53 suites and 19 connecting rooms, the rooms are well-proportioned and offer an extensive range of amenities to suit different travelers’ needs.
CANOPY ROOM
Canopy Room
Don’t be fooled by its 32-square-meter size—while it may not be as large as the suites, the Canopy Room provides ample space for you and your guest to lounge in comfortably. The room is equipped with a multi-functional TV, a dedicated workspace, and even a small bathtub alongside a separate shower area—a thoughtful touch rarely found in city hotels of this category.
CORNER SUITE ROOM
Corner Suite Room
As the name suggests, the Corner Suite Rooms are located at the corners of each floor, offering extra space and privacy. But what truly sets them apart is their size—at 63 square meters, they are nearly double the size of a standard Canopy Room. The suite includes a separate living area with a sofa, a spacious bedroom with large windows, and a luxurious bathroom with dual sinks.
During my stay, I was fortunate enough to experience the Corner Suite Room. At first, the sheer space felt overwhelming, considering how accustomed I am to smaller hotel rooms in Japan. But after settling in, I quickly realised what a luxury it was to have so much room to relax.
Arriving at the hotel in the late evening, I was pleasantly surprised to find a selection of snacks and drinks thoughtfully arranged on the table by the staff. On subsequent nights, the hotel’s turndown service ensured my bed was made, and a bottle of water was placed by my bedside, making it easy to unwind after a long day of exploring. While these may seem like small gestures, they left a lasting impression on me—a testament to the hotel’s attention to detail and exceptional hospitality.
As a reflection of its spaciousness, the Corner Suite Room is equipped with not one but two multi-functional TVs—one in the bedroom and one in the living room. Whether you want to catch up on local channels or stream your favourite series on YouTube or Netflix, the room offers seamless entertainment options.
One of my favourite features was the large windows, which offered breathtaking views of Osaka. Falling asleep to the city lights and waking up to the sun rising over the horizon was an experience in itself.
The bathroom, on the other hand, is another highlight, especially for those who enjoy having their own space. With dual sinks, there’s no need to worry about sharing with your partner—you’ll have plenty of room to get ready (or unwind) at your own pace. The bathroom also features a large bathtub and a separate shower area, unlike many hotels where space is more limited. Plus, you can travel light, as the hotel provides a full range of toiletries, from combs and loofahs to essentials like a toothbrush, mouthwash, and hairdryer.
CANOPY OSAKA SUITE ROOM
Canopy Osaka Suite Room
For families travelling together and looking for a spacious suite to return to after a full day of exploring, the Canopy Osaka Suite Room is an excellent choice. Located on one of the highest floors, this 95-square-meter suite provides an expansive retreat with panoramic views of Umekita Park from the dining area. Guests will also appreciate the dedicated powder room, offering more room for them to get ready in their own space.
CANOPY PANORAMA VIEW SUITE ROOM
Canopy Panorama View Suite Room
For those seeking an extra luxurious stay, the Canopy Panorama View Suite Room is the ultimate option. As the largest suite in the hotel, it sits on the highest floor, offering unparalleled views of Umekita Park’s lush greenery and the Yodo River through expansive corner windows.
Guests can relax in the spacious living area, which is outfitted with a plush sofa, dining table, and a dedicated workspace, before retreating to the private bedroom, furnished with a king-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom.
THE FACILITIES
Fitness Centre at Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda
Like most hotel properties, the Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda comes fully equipped with a private gym. Here, you’ll find four treadmills, a smith machine and a wide range of free weights, just to name a few.
What I love about this gym is that, just like the other rooms, it features floor-to-ceiling windows—so you can take in the stunning view of GRAND GREEN OSAKA while you work out.
FOOD & BEVERAGE OPTIONS
CC: Carbon Copy restaurant
During your stay at this hotel, rest assured that you’ll never go hungry. At Canopy, you’ll find restaurants like CC: Carbon Copy, a restaurant that serves Japanese-Western cuisine.
Some of their notable dishes include the juicy Peruvian Aji Verde Chicken, savoury Grilled Awaji Shima Onion with Miso Butter and my personal favourite, the Grilled Japanese Domestic Beef topped with Arima Sansho Jus.
The restaurant also serves the hotel’s daily buffet breakfast where you can expect an extensive array of mouthwatering options ranging from Japanese to Western dishes.
!JAJA! Bar
For those looking for a quick nightcap before heading back to their room, !JAJA! Bar is a great spot to check out. Conveniently located next to CC on the 11th floor, the bar offers a delectable selection of house spirits and Japanese-inspired cocktails, along with classics like Espresso Martinis that will have you coming back for more. The atmosphere is warm and inviting—like a cosy pub, sans the usual noise, making it the perfect place to unwind.
Bean There, Umeda Cafe
On the ground floor, the hotel’s café, Bean There, Umeda, offers a unique coffee experience. Unlike most cafés, it uses an automated pour-over coffee machine to craft each drink with precision. Currently, the café is collaborating with LiLo Coffee Roasters, giving guests the opportunity to explore a variety of coffee blends.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
For the unacquainted, the hotel was first launched in September 2024, marking the debut of the Canopy by Hilton brand in Japan. One of its most noteworthy features is its prime location. A short walk from Osaka Station – which has direct access to the airport railway – the hotel is perfect for travellers who want to skip the hassle of dragging their luggage through crowded streets and dive straight into exploring the city.
Grand Green Osaka
It is also nestled within the new GRAND GREEN OSAKA urban mixed-use development, which was recently launched in conjunction with the hotel in September 2024. The latter is typically used as a venue for concerts or, on other days, a place where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a picnic with your loved ones.
TimeOut Market
Within the vicinity, you’ll find new establishments like the iconic TimeOut Market, the first of its kind in Asia that’s slated to open later this year, and, a slew of shopping malls such as LUCUA Osaka, Grand Front Osaka and Hankyu Sanban Gai.
VS. Museum
Plus, right next to the hotel, you’ll find the VS. Museum, where you can explore various exhibitions, such as the current showcase by Takenaka Corporation.
OVERALL SENTIMENTS
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Canopy by Hilton Osaka Umeda and I’d definitely make a visit when I’m back in Osaka in the future. Whether you’re visiting Osaka for business or leisure, this hotel offers the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and thoughtful design. With its spacious rooms, prime location near Osaka Station, and a host of amenities that enhance your stay, it’s a hotel that truly understands what modern travellers need. From its inviting social spaces to the little touches that make a difference, every detail is carefully considered—making it a standout choice for your next trip to Osaka.
