Though Gigi, Bella, Kendall and Kaia are ruling the fashion runways now, it’s tough to forget the heyday of O.G. supermodel supremes. And that’s something Off-White reminded us of during its Fall/Winter 2022 presentation at Paris Fashion Week.
In Virgil Abloh’s posthumous show for the brand, a posse of ’90s supermodels gathered for the first time again since their appearance for the Spring/Summer 2018 Versace show to commemorate Gianni Versace’s 20th death anniversary.
Among the old guards that turned up on the Off-White catwalk were Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Amber Valletta. They were joined by Abloh’s favourite models including Adut Akech, the Hadid sisters, and Kendall Jenner – the two generations of models representing the late designer’s ideals of evolution and change.
The runway collection, titled “Spaceship Earth: an Imaginary Experience”, is an ethereal tribute to Abloh’s work and the power of the imagination. Besides the ready-to-wear collection, there was also the debut of a 28-look high fashion (read: couture) line all designed, envisioned, and finalised by the late Virgil Abloh himself.
