Swatch's latest collaboration puts a colourful twist on minimalism

You might not recognise Surpiya Lele’s name (yet), but you’ve probably swooned over her designs on It girls such as Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid and Rihanna. Swiss watch brand Swatch recognises the young designer’s talent and believes that the world needs to start taking notice now. 

The 33-year-old designer shares a love for colour, creativity and playful irreverence with Swatch. Now, she has injected her signature aesthetic of blending reimagined elements of traditional Indian dress with pared-back ’90s minimalism into the Swatch Skin Classic line – the thinnest watch in the world.

This rising star has been making waves throughout the industry, thanks to her ability to create beautiful, directional pieces that blur the lines between cultures. On the runway, Supriya’s ingenious layering with sheer fabrics is so light that her designs almost become a comfortable second skin for the women who wear them – just like the Swatch Skin Classic watch. 

“I looked to my signature minimalist silhouettes, traditional saris distressed to transparent overlays, dyed squid-ink black, peacock blue, medallion yellow, and the Madras check for inspiration. The Swatch Skin Classic provided the perfect canvas, and is worn almost like a second skin – the light, minimalist look and feel has many synergies with my creative vision,” says Supriya.
