Have you ever wondered what kind of watches does a real woman wear? It's definitely not one that's overly embellished with blings – that's too flashy for everyday. For Singaporean host and radio DJ Sonia Chew, who's Tag Heuer's friend of the brand, she opts for something elegant yet edgy, like the Swiss brand's Carrera Lady 36mm timepiece, fashioned with a mother-of-pearl dial and diamond indexes.

Ever wondered what she wears for work and the weekends? We spoke to Sonia on her personal style, her first watch and the timepiece she wears on an everyday basis.

On the watch and jewellery she wears every day

"Currently, my essential is the stainless steel Aquaracer 32mm with rose gold accents and diamonds. As for jewellery, I usually keep it simple with gold hoops or small studs, and a narrow rose gold cuff that I hardly ever take off."

On what she wears to work vs weekends

"I’m usually in Manolo Blahniks with jeans on a regular day when I need to work, but I switch to my go-to Puma sneakers for weekends. I also tend to go for a more feminine, relaxed timepiece like the Tag Heuer Carrera when the weekend rolls around. Something about its elegant design makes me feel like I should be on vacation."

On what she looks for in a timepiece

"It has to be something classic, that resonates with me, and fits the phase in life I’m in. What I like about Tag Heuer is that its timepieces can look rugged yet classy, and I can take them from day to night seamlessly."

On her first watch

"The Tag Heuer Aquaracer with a mother-of-pearl face. My parents bought it for me when I got into Mass Communications at Ngee Ann Poly. It’s significant as I’m from a humble family, and it was a pretty fancy timepiece for a 16-year-old. It marked a big event in my life and I felt like an adult wearing it!"

On how she’s celebrating National Day this year

"For the past few years, I’ve been hosting the National Day Parade so I haven’t been able to spend that weekend with my loved ones. This year, I won’t be involved and it’s a welcome change, especially since 2020 has shown us how precious time is with your family! I’d like to book a table at a restaurant or hotel, and invite close friends and family to enjoy each other’s company."

On her wishlist

"More life experiences! The fact that most things are restricted now really got me thinking if I’ve seen the world enough, travelled enough – lived enough. Also, the Tag Heuer Carrera with a deep blue dial rose gold accents and a diamond bezel... that’s pretty cool!"
