Taiwanese boy band 5566's Jason Hsu is engaged to model Bernice Chao

Jason Hsu, a member of Taiwanese boy band 5566, has some good news to share - he has succeeded in getting girlfriend Bernice Chao to say yes.

On Thursday (Nov 14), Hsu announced on social media that Chao, a model, has agreed to marry him.

He posted a photo of her hand with a diamond ring and wrote "Meng + Meng" - his Chinese name is Meng-che while hers is Meng-zi. She later also shared a photo of the pair holding hands, with her holding a bouquet of flowers.

Hsu's manager Sarah later confirmed to the media that Hsu, 34, had proposed to Chao, 33, on Wednesday. She said that there is a special significance to the ring, as it was passed down from Hsu's maternal grandmother to his mother.

"His mother gave the ring to him when she learnt that he is proposing," Sarah said. 

Sarah added that details of their marriage registration and wedding dinner have not been firmed up yet.

Modelling agency Catwalk Taiwan has also shared another photo of the proposal, showing the loved up pair with balloons that spelt out 'Marry Me'. It also revealed that Jason and Bernice often travelled together with a group of friends.

The 5566 member had planned the surprise proposal up in the mountains, where he had gotten the unsuspecting Chao to go to under the guise of having afternoon tea. He then took out the heirloom ring and asked for her hand in marriage. There were rumours earlier in June that Hsu and Chao are together, after netizens found similar photos on their respective Instagram accounts.When Hsu's agency was approached by the media, it said then that they were good friends with common interests.

Hsu used to date actress Ava Chang, but they broke up in 2017 after dating for three years.

5566 performed earlier in Singapore in July. The band originally had five members, but are now a three-man group comprising Hsu, Zax Wang, 39, and Tony Sun, 41. Wang is married to actress Chi Chin, while Sun is divorced.
