Since the ceremony's inception in 1929, the Oscars have been noted as one of the most highly anticipated event every year amongst Hollywood celebrities and fans alike. As much as we love watching the ceremony for the awards, there's no denying that many of us look forward to the Academy Awards best-dressed celebs. Think — Keira Knightley in plum Vera Wang circa 2006, or Kate Winslet in periwinkle Badgley Mischka — every now and then, a gown will be so breathtaking it will make a career.
In line with the recent Oscar awards last Sunday, April 25, British marketplace OnBuy.com took it upon themselves to survey people on which celebrity looks are the most iconic of all time. Here, the top 10 list most mentioned were surveyed by participants from all over the world to see which dress would take the title of being the most iconic look from the 93 years of Oscar awards.
Scroll through to find out who topped the list.
At the top of the list is none other than Angelina Jolie herself. In 2004, the star stunned the crowd in a figure-hugging, satin Marc Bouwer gown.
Besides being the first Kenyan actress to win an Oscar, Lupita Nyong'o also made headlines in 2013 and dazzled the crowd on the red carpet in a bright baby blue gown by Prada.
At the 2014 Academy Awards, Kate Hudson stole the show, showing up in a white Versace gown with a matching cape.
All that glitters is not gold... unless you're wearing this glamorous and glittering gown by Gucci on Charlize Theron back in 2004.
Can't decide between a tuxedo or a gown? Billy Porter shows how it's possible to have the best of both worlds with this iconic ensemble that he donned at the Oscars in 2019. The sartorial piece was a custom Christian Siriano gown and it featured a traditional tuxedo jacket over a white shirt with ruffle detailing around the cuff and a full-length skirt.
Gemma Chan looks pretty in pink in this bold and voluminous Valentino gown while walking down the red carpet at the Oscars back in 2019. In fact, it has also been said that the parachute-like, voluminous gown managed to make one of the most dramatic entrances of the evening in that year!
Nicole Kidman took it up a notch with a bold number at the 2007 awards ceremony with an all-red gown by Balenciaga's former designer Nicolas Ghesquière on the red carpet.
We're always tempted to use the phrase "vision of perfection", and Mila Kunis might have been just that at the Oscars in 2011. In that year, the star wore a lavender chiffon gown with tiered lace detailing and groisgrain ribbon waist from the Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2011 Collection — and it's safe to say that the star was one of the main fashion highlight's of the year's awards show circuit.
If you're thinking of any celebrity that could pull off a show-stopping outfit that will have everyone looking twice, you can always count on Cher. Back in 1986, Cher showed up in a midriff-baring ensemble by Bob Mackie, topped with a towering feather headdress.
Besides winning the Oscar for Best Actress in Shakespeare In Love, Gwyneth Paltrow also made a name for herself in 1999 with a noteworthy look that we can't seem to get our minds off. And if you didn't already know, it was the baby pink spaghetti-strap, taffeta gown designed by Ralph Lauren that made the cut.
