Titled ‘Gucci Twinsburg’, Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection comprises 68 looks that complement the themes of identity that the brand was toying with this season. Sharp tailoring and abstract, colourful prints of lipsticks, spanner and animal stripes seem to lose their status of singularity” explains the brand esoterically in its press notes. “The effect is alienating and ambiguous.” What’s more straightforward, however, is Gucci’s penchant for retro glamour – the collection is punctuated with the usual affair of sequinned blazers, swishy dresses and perfectly tailored suits.

The show saw 68 sets of twins walking down the runway in quirky prints, metal face jewellery and vintage-inspired formalwear amongst other things.
Perhaps to highlight one’s individuality and inner rebel, the array of body jewellery, elaborately embellished eyewear, torn fishnets, garters and cut-off suits’ pants that show off the wearer’s mesh briefs and thighs are all part of the outing. But the best part of this collection? You can already lay your hands on them from Gucci stores now. Scroll on for some of the must-haves to own this season.
Like the name suggests, the Gucci Horsebit hardware was seen on a bag for the first time in 1955 and reflects the brand’s equestrian heritage. Look closely at the gold hardware and you’ll see the two U-shaped rings joined together by a gold bar – elements that can be found in the equestrian world.
A nod to the year it was first introduced, Gucci’s Jackie 1961 range of sleek shoulder bags is recognised for its slight crescent shape and piston hardware closure. With each new collection, this versatile classic is constantly being reinterpreted – it now also has pieces that come with a removable shoulder strap in leather or as a metal chain.
This yet-to-be-christened bag style with its saddle-shaped flap is inspired by an archive design from the 1980’s. It’s reminiscent of the one found in Gucci’s Cruise 2013 collection, created by former creative director Frida Giannini (who’s a big equestrian fan herself) who included this piece in an exclusive wardrobe for Australian showjumper Edwina Alexander.
Another bag debut this season that has yet to be named as of press time is this structured flap bag which comes with contrasting quilted leather finishes – in a square pattern and a diamond-shaped pattern. Finished off with the signature GG hardware closure and a gold chain shoulder strap, the bag makes for a great addition to any retro-lovers bag arsenal.
