Tom again

Remember that little Tom Waits painting I put up a while back? Six people jumped at the chance to buy it. I told them all they had to get their own, which I’d be happy to supply. A couple backed off and told me of their financial woes, a couple are undecided on what they want and one finally got the ball rolling. Kristen, here’s your Tom so far…

Al, your sketches have been emailed.

Anyone else? Tom Waits seems to be my unexpected muse these days.

A while back Boston got the heaviest rain I think I’ve ever seen in my life one Saturday afternoon. It was the day of the first show the Police did at Fenway… let me google… July 28th. I drove into the south end to hang out with my friends who flew in from L.A. and N.Y. to see the Police. Jet-setting douchebags. We even grilled on a roofdeck. Anyhow… I drove around the streets of Boston trying to find an ever elusive parking spot and all of a sudden the sky went black as Snipes. I had been listening to Tom Waits’ “Alice” for the ride in and all of a sudden the skies started pouring rain so bad that I had to pull over. Despite the wipers on full blast I couldn’t see a damn thing. The streets were instant rivers. Curbs were invisible. It was awe inspiring. Throughout the worst of the rain “No one knows I’m gone” played on the car stereo.

Hell above and Heaven below
All the trees are gone
The rain made such a lovely sound
To those who are six feet under ground
The leaves will bury every year
And no one knows I’m gone

The song itself is heartbreaking. If you don’t know it, email me for an mp3.

After I had pulled over I listened to “Poor Edward” and a great painting arrived in my head.

I won’t commit to any plan on here, but I have ideas for the future and I have only Tom Waits to thank for having more than enough imagination for the two of us.

Thank you, Tom Waits.

Update 1:00 pm…

Have I lost readership this week?

    Dear god that’s lovely.

Now I can’t wait to get home, put one of his albums on (I’m thinking Rain Dogs), and fix a drink.
