March 8th marks the annual observance of International Women's Day (IWD). From groundbreaking achievements in various fields to everyday acts of resilience and strength, women continue to inspire and shape our societies in profound ways.

As we commemorate this day, it's an opportunity to celebrate the progress made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and recommit ourselves to fostering a more inclusive and equitable world for future generations. A line-up of award-winning female bartenders from Asia’s 50 Best Bars await at Wallich Manor this IWD week. Happening from 5 March to 8 March, you can expect a tantalising array of ten artisanal cocktails meticulously crafted by talented mixologists like Singapore’s Som Lee from Neon Pigeon (5 March), Philippines's Abby Quilal-lan from Grasshopper (7 March), Thailand’s Nene from Rabbit Hole (8 March), as well as Thailand’s Khem from Crimson Room (8 March), that you can find on their special takeover menu. The Purple Afternoon Tea, served in tandem with IWD, will be back at The Fullerton Hotel and The Fullerton Bay Hotel from 1 March to 28 March.

Line your bellies with a free-flow of savouries like beet cured smoked salmon topped with caviar, and sous vide Boston lobster with ikura and purple cabbage powder. Leave room for the sweet treats, with aromatic notes of blossoms and berries. Think violet choux pastry and blackberry sakura chocolate tart.

And it’ll go to a good cause, too. $5 nett from the proceeds of each Purple Afternoon Tea set will be donated to United Women Singapore, a non-profit organisation that aims to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment by promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for girls and advocacy on the prevention of domestic violence.

For the month of March, Shangri-La Singapore has rolled out an exclusive Inspire Inclusion high tea set to support the efforts of United Women Singapore (UWS) in advancing women’s empowerment and fostering gender equality.

The three-tier high tea set comprises sweet and savoury treats in a pretty purple and orange colour palette. Think Blueberry Frangipane Tart, Earl Grey Macaron, Yam Roulade, Sweet Potato Kueh Keledik and a Violet Sweet Potato and Caramelised Onion Tart. Guests can enjoy the treats amidst the elegant setting of The Lobby Lounge.

With each Inspire Inclusion high tea set or a  Royal Lavender Earl Delight cake ($48 nett) sold, Shangri-La Singapore will donate $5 to UWS and the proceeds will support its UWS Girls Empowered Programme Programme through a combination of talks and hands-on workshops to equip young women from 12 to 25 years old with the skills, knowledge and confidence to overcome challenges and achieve their fullest potential in all spheres of their lives.
