Why Jesseca Liu & Jeremy Chan are the perfect couple
It’s in the little things they do for each other

One of the sweetest moments of the Star Awards 2024 on Sunday night was the exchange between Jesseca Liu and Jeremy Chan during the latter’s winning moment when he went on stage to receive the Best Actor award. With Jeremy looking almost like he was ready to tear up, Jesseca shouted, “Don’t cry!”. And so, he did, steadying his voice to deliver the rest of his speech. He also gave a shoutout to his wife during his speech, saying, “Thank you for boiling eggs for me. I know you loved the chubby Jeremy of the past, but now you have to get used to a more fit Jeremy.”
Last year, the couple, too, captured everyone’s attention when Jesseca ran across to Jeremy and hugged him when he was announced a recipient of the Top 10 Popular Male Artistes award. From proving naysayers wrong to their secrets to a thriving marriage, scroll below for how the couple has inspired us with their sweet and strong relationship.
Last year, it was a heartwarming sight when Jesseca rushed to embrace Jeremy after his name was announced for the Top 10 award. She was also visibly teary-eyed as she returned to her seat. The actor got emotional too, as he thanked his wife during his acceptance speech, saying, “Most importantly, I want to thank my wife, Jesseca Liu. I love you.” He’d repeated her name three times, likely as a nod to the previous year’s event, when she made it a point to mention his name thrice when he didn’t make it into the list.
And this year, when speaking to the media backstage, Jeremy revealed that she’d woken up very early that day to vote for him.
“I woke up a little later, and I thought she was doing yoga or making breakfast,” he shared. “I went downstairs and saw her sitting on the sofa. I thought she was meditating, so I went to look, and she was voting for me. I don’t know what time she woke up, and she has been sitting there voting since.”
Jeremy has been open about the challenges he faced during the early days of their relationship, with the pressure of being less well-known than her at the time, as well as the criticism from naysayers.
But the couple has navigated the negativity together, and are set to celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary this year. They tied the knot in 2017 with a beautiful beach wedding in Langkawi.
Sure, saccharine couple snaps on social media might not always be a real indicator of their relationship. But there’s also the authenticity and candidness that shine through their photos, be it roasting each other, videos of them up to various antics, or their travel vlogs.
It’s not unusual for wives to liken their husbands to overgrown kids. But Jesseca Liu quite literally had to endure Jeremy acting like a kid for months.
The pair both starred in the supernatural-themed drama Soul Detective, with Jeremy portraying a spirit of an orphan who had escaped from the underworld. While alive, his character suffered brain damage from a fever, which led to him acting like a child.
For the role, he found it easier to stay in character during the filming process. And that’s even when he was off the set and at home with his wife, which didn’t quite sit well with her.
“One of him was irritating enough. But everyone else on set started talking like him – the crew, the directors, the other actors. It was so annoying,” Jesseca lamented in a media interview.
In previous interviews, Jesseca has shared that she believes consistency is the key to a successful marriage. For instance, if there are romantic traditions that a couple has shared before marriage, like weekly date nights, it’s important to keep them going. She also believes in setting aside regular together-time and in practicing patience.
Jeremy has also let on that he likes to give her small surprises out of the blue, such as buying her flowers when he goes grocery shopping or cooking something for her to eat. “It’s the little things,” he shared. “Do chores for her now and then. Don’t take things for granted.”
Any couple who work together would attest to the fact that it’s seldom, if not never, easy. But Jesseca and Jeremy have teamed up to launch a fragrance line, You, with the couple being very involved in conceptualising and formulating the scents, together with an expert on board.
It’s driven by the actress’ passion for making home fragrances, and is one of her many businesses including spas, a cafe and rental homestay accommodations.
What’s even sweeter: The concept was inspired by a fragrance mist that was custom-made by a professional for their seaside wedding.
