2025 is finally here and with that, most of us tend to make some pretty big promises or goals for ourselves for the new year. Some of us are locked in on finding better career opportunities while others are focused on saving more money. However, if your focus is on improving your self-care or even glowing up in the sense that you’re prioritising your physical, mental and emotional health, then you’ve come to the right page. In this roundup, we’re zooming in on some tips and healthy habits that you can incorporate into your daily routine.
10 ways to glow-up this New Year
Go for daily walks
Working from home? Don’t forget to clock in those steps on your breaks. Taking those daily walks everyday, even if they are brisk walks, helps you gain greater health benefits such as burning off calories. Not to mention, if you’re doing it during the day, you’ll get that much-needed dose of vitamin D while you’re at it.
Incorporate weight training into your routine
Whether you’re looking to shed some weight or tone your body, including some weight training in your routine can make a huge difference to your body. It helps to improve the composition of your body, tone your muscles, and gain strength. However, if you’re too intimidated to gym on your own, you can try going for group classes or even find a personal trainer to guide you through your workouts.
Find your celebrity lookalike
Odds are they got they’ve more or less a signature look that they are known for since they have their own personal stylists and makeup artists. So if you have similar features, look at what your celebrity lookalikes are doing because this serves as a great compass to set your styling goals for the year ahead.
Drink your greens every morning
Green vegetable juice has been making its ‘rounds on social media with many raving about how amazing its benefits are. In fact, even Martha Stewart shared that her secret to looking youthful in her 80s is her daily green juice. This blend is made with a mix of oranges, green pear, celery, cucumbers, parsley and ginger. Alternatively, you can also mix in other ingredients to make your own unique smoothies, such as mint, kale, lemon, or green apples.
Avoid using your phone during the first half hour after waking up
Guilty of checking your phone the moment you open your eyes in the morning? You might want to think twice about doing that again. Engaging with your phone right after waking up can scatter your focus, making it harder to concentrate and it could also lead to an increase in anxiety, and irritation, and make one feel less productive throughout the day.
Avoid using your phone half an hour before going to bed
Using your phone right before bed can also be harmful to your body as it can suppress melatonin production and you’ll be overstimulated making it harder for you to achieve that deep, relaxed sleep.
Use SPF everyday
If you’re not already using SPF everyday, then it’s about time you should. The benefits of sunscreen are distinguished in their own right; amongst many superlatives, it helps protect your skin, reduce the appearance of sun damage, slow down signs of ageing, and decrease the risk of getting skin cancer. So even if we’re spending most of our time indoors working from home, sunscreen should still remain an essential step.
Keep a clean space
Keeping your space clean, especially your bedroom can be seen as a form of self-care. Doing so not only helps to keep your space clean but it also indirectly keeps one’s thoughts organised, improves focus and helps you feel more in control of your life.
Make your bed everyday
Have a bad habit of leaving your bed as it is before leaving the house? Making your bed everyday is not only a good habit but it’s a practice that helps to improve your mood and make you feel more relaxed and happy. This also helps with productivity, concentration and improves your mental health.
Prioritise your gut health
Often we tend to neglect our gut health, but as we move forward in the new year, it’s important that we invest in supplements that will help with your gut health such as probiotics and L-glutamine.
